Jacopo Baron is a social anthropologist. His research activity takes place in the Republic of Vanuatu (Oceania) and his scientific interests include the history, ethnology, and arts of the region. During his PhD he focused on the recording, description and analysis of Vanuatu sand-drawing, while his Fyssen post-doc scholarship was dedicated to the documentation of north Vanuatu initiation rites. Since then, he has been called to act as spokesperson in Europe for the Vanuatu Cultural Centre and has collaborated on scientific dissemination projects with the Centre de Recherche et Documentation sur l’Océanie and the Musée d’Arts Africains, Océaniens et Amérindiens of Marseille.
Jacopo Baron’s PhD thesis was awarded the Martine Aublet Foundation Thesis Prize 2021 and his post-doctoral research led him to be presented with the Fyssen Foundation Young Researcher Award in 2024.
