Laura De Becker is a Lecturer in the Arts of Africa at the Sainsbury Research Unit, University of East Anglia. A specialist in Central African art, she is the former Chief Curator and Helmut and Candis Stern Curator of African Art at the University of Michigan Museum of Art (2015-2025), and held an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship at the Wits Art Museum in Johannesburg (2012-2015). She has curated over fifteen exhibitions focused on the arts of Africa, exploring questions of ethical stewardship, collaborative curation, and processual museology. De Becker earned her PhD from the University of East Anglia and has worked in museums across Rwanda, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and the United States. She is currently one of seven co-curators working towards the exhibition and publication Ghana 1957: African Art After Independence.
